Context
The NZZ Media Group is one of the largest private media companies in Switzerland. It has two business segments: NZZ Media and Business Media.
The year 2019 for the NZZ Media Group was marked by its strategic realignment, focusing on quality journalism and growth in the user market. Naturally, digital transformation also plays a central role, which is reflected both in content and visuals in the current annual report.

After the annual report trilogy in the classic brochure format (2016–2018), enriched with a high-quality and intellectual visual concept, a new communicative approach was chosen for the current report.

It quickly became clear to us that we would continue to focus on a printed annual report. On the one hand, as a deliberate countertrend to the highly successful digital offerings of the NZZ Group, and on the other, because print products remain important cornerstones in the NZZ product portfolio.
Interest in print products remains strong, even among Generation Y. Nicole Althaus, member of the editorial board of “NZZ am Sonntag” and editor-in-chief of magazines, sums it up in an interview in the report: “It is the millennials who are standing up for print.”




Every future has an origin, and as a branding agency, we are aware that communication must build on historical values in order to be effective. Thus, we created a contemporary vessel for current content in a traditional product: newsprint.





With this project, we won the iF Design Award 2021 in the “Communication” category.
